The House of Representatives has developed bipartisan legislation to increase the transparency of healthcare pricing by hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, and surgical centers along with increasing oversight of pharmacy benefit managers that increase the price of prescription drugs. AMAC fully supports this legislation and urges AMAC members to contact their Congressmen to  urge their support.

Dear Chairs Rodgers, Smith, and Foxx and Ranking Member Pallone,

On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I am pleased to offer our support for the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, H.R. 5378. The importance of this legislation to reduce the cost of healthcare cannot be understated. AMAC strongly supports this legislation for the following reasons:

  • Increasing price transparency requirements for hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, ambulatory
    surgical centers, and insurers.
  • Increasing transparency of the business practices used by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).
  • Lowering the costs paid by Medicare by allowing site-neutral drug administration.
  • Making it easier and more transparent for generic drugs to enter the market.

The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act is a product of bipartisan work by your committees, and AMAC cannot thank you enough for spearheading this effort to increase transparency to lower the cost of healthcare. AMAC has followed the process this legislation has taken through multiple hearings and markups to produce this bipartisan legislation.

AMAC has asked our members to reach out to their Representatives and urge them to vote in favor of the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. AMAC supports this legislation on behalf of our members and applauds the hard work done by the Energy & Commerce Committee, Ways and Means Committee, and the Education and Workforce Committee in bringing additional transparency to the complex healthcare industry.

Thank you, Chairs Rodgers, Smith, and Foxx, and Ranking Member Pallone, for your efforts to reduce the cost of medical services and for helping patients take more control over their healthcare. AMAC is urging all Representatives to vote in favor of the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom
President
