EKG stands for electrocardiogram. It is a medical test that records the electrical activity of the heart. Electrodes are placed on the skin of the chest, arms, and legs to detect and amplify these electrical signals. The resulting tracing on a monitor or printout shows the rhythm, rate, and strength of the heartbeat.
