The United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights is investigating a data breach that involved HCA Healthcare, a national healthcare company that also provides service in South Florida.The HHS’ breach portal lists HCA Healthcare as a case being investigated as the breach was submitted to HHS on July 31, and the type of breach is described as an “Hacking/IT incident” that impacted a “business associate” of HCA Healthcare.The HHS database notes that 11,270,000 individuals were affected by the breach.On July 10, HCA Healthcare, which is based in Nashville, Tennessee, announced it discovered on July 5 that a list of certain patient information was exposed on an outline platform by an unauthorized party.
