WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – As the health care industry increasingly seeks to elevate clinical professionals to administrative positions, Pennsylvania College of Technology is launching a bachelor’s degree in healthcare leadership and administration.
Designed for individuals who seek advanced roles in their health care fields, the degree is available to those who hold associate degrees in health care disciplines and many who are or will soon be U.S. certified, licensed or registered in a health care profession.
Classes for the healthcare leadership and administration degree will begin in fall 2024. The new option replaces the college’s bachelor’s in applied health studies.
Built upon credits already earned through an associate degree or certificate, the bachelor’s degree is offered online and can be completed in two years of full-time study or on a part-time schedule.
“We’re excited to offer this new version of our degree-completion major, which builds on the success of the current curriculum by adding more leadership-specific content,” said Wendy A. Miller, assistant dean of health sciences. “Given the ever-changing health care landscape, many allied health professionals are looking to take advantage of leadership opportunities, and this program can help them achieve that goal. The new major is still fully online, and students can take as few as one course per semester, giving health care workers the flexibility they need to manage their busy work and home lives.”
Coursework focuses on supervising employees, leading teams, planning, solving problems, evaluating health care delivery methods and systems, exploring new sectors of health care, and enhancing students’ personal and professional growth. Topics include community health, medical practice administration, interdisciplinary collaboration and quality assurance.
The bachelor’s degree in healthcare leadership & administration also serves as a bridge to a master’s degree.
